What technique is taught within the FREE Acting Class?In 1991, UNIONindie, LLC Founder and CEO Brooke Teal Robbins was awarded a full scholarship to The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute inWest Hollywood by Anna Strasberg. By providing professional training to non-union and union Actors UNIONindie intends to contribute to the legacy, the development of the Method, by emphasizing different aspects of the approach.

Do I need to prepare before attending the FREE Acting Class?The FREE Acting Classes are open to the public. All levels of Acting ability are welcome (i.e. Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced). Actors attending first class may Sign Up beforehand via unionindie.com, they do not have to prepare. Once Actors have participated in more than one class session they may be added to our Facebook group. Preparation shall be required for ongoing participants, based upon assignments. Class may focus on: ​ SCENE STUDY DEMO REEL REHEARSAL IMPROV COLD READING TECHNIQUE AUDITIONING EXTRA (ACTING) DRAMA COMEDY VOICE METHOD THE INDUSTRY ​ All participants in attendance must be eighteen (18) or older and sign the UNIONindie, LLC "on camera" standard agreement abiding by all applicable laws governing the use of the Pasadena Public Library Auditorium.

Are their different levels for the Class and paying Members?Yes. Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced. The reality of the entertainment industry is that many professional Actors are referred to as A, B and even C list Actors. However, UNIONindie, LLC provides a teaching style and program that is focused on intense development for each Actors craft to help every person succeed in the industry, regardless of the level.

Are Scene Partners assigned?Yes. UNIONindie may seriously consider any requests made by Actors, regarding Scene Partners. However, Scene Partners will predominantly be assigned. Professional Actors understand that, in the entertainment industry, Casting is up to the Casting Directors.

Can I get my Extra Work listed on IMDb and IMDbPro?Only within the IMDb Mini Biography and Additional Credits section can you reference Extra Work. But if you were not cast by the Principals Casting Director, if you were not contracted as a Principal, if you were not paid as a Principal, if you were not professionally vetted and credited by contract as a Principal or not verified by IMDb, then you were only a Background Artist and to list "Extra Work" on IMDb or IMDbPro as Principal Work is to unprofessionally lie on your Acting resume. Do not lie. Hollywood is a small town and you only get one reputation.

What are the odds of becoming a professional Actor?Study by Queen Mary University of London referred to surveys that showed only 2% of Actors make a living and that the rest are out of work at any given time. The entertainment industry is not just about talent and who you know. You have to be tough. You have to deal with ongoing rejection and constant unemployment, possibly for years. To increase your odds, become educated in Method Acting, gain experience on set by doing Extra Work, Network, join SAG-AFTRA, create a Demo Reel, get headshots, get a SAG Franchised Agent, audition for Principals Casting Directors, build an Acting Resume as well as list your Principal Work on IMDb and IMDbPro.

Does UNIONindie register with the Writers Guild of America (WGA)?Yes. We register various projects (i.e. Screenplays, Scenes, Concepts, Documentaries, Outlines, Pilots, Shorts, Treatments, etc.) online with the Writers Guild of America (WGA) via wga.org.

Are all famous Actors Members of SAG-AFTRA?Yes. All contemporary film and television Actors are Members of SAG-AFTRA.

Can SAG-AFTRA Members participate in UNIONindie scenes?To audition and be cast for a UNIONindie project, SAG-AFTRA Union Actors must be able to provide membership card with ID and currently be in good standing with SAG-AFTRA via sagaftra.org. In respect to the #MeToo campaign and SAG-AFTRA code of conduct guideline No. 1, auditions and/or interviews for any and/or all UNIONindie, LLC projects shall only be held in public group settings and will NOT be held in a private hotel room and/or personal residence.

How many Actors and/or Actresses will be in each scene?Up to ten (10) Actors and/or Actresses may be Cast for each UNIONindle ensemble level. So, it depends upon each scene and/or project. Other Actors and/or Actresses Cast within your Ensemble level may become Extras in various scenes and/or act in Supporting Roles providing quality and depth to your Film Shoot.

How do I become an Independent Contractor for UNIONindie?Independent filmmaking for both NON-UNION and UNION projects involves a large number of creative people capable of completing many stages of production. This includes Producing, Writing, Casting, Filming and Editing before an audience may view each project via our YouTube Channel. The basic qualifications to become an Independent Contractor for UNIONindie, LLC may include, but are not limited to : 1. Resume including education in Film, list of experience as a Crew Member on set and professional references. 2. Head-Shot for promotion purposes, social media links, bio and professional Film Reel (i.e. Editor Reel, Director Reel, Cinematography Reel, etc.). 3. Upon hiring as an Independent Contractor : being able to provide a Drivers License, Social Security Number, any applicable UNION Cards and Passport to HR for local work. NOTICE : UNIONindie, LLC may amend operating agreement. As a result, Cast and Crew may be asked to travel outside the State of California for field production.

When do I receive the footage for my reel?Footage may be provided to active paid in full ENSEMBLE MEMBER(S) via zip drive within one (1) month after project has completed through United States certified mail. Certified Mail is a special USPS service that provides an official receipt showing proof the item was mailed. When the mail piece is delivered, the mail carrier requires a signature from the recipient.

What is CSA?The Casting Society of America is the premier organization of theatrical Casting Directors and Associates working in film, television, theatre and new media.

What is a Background Actor?A Background Actor or extra is someone who performs in a show in a nonspeaking role, usually in the background. Central Casting registers Background Actors to appear in their legendary database. Every day, their in-house Casting Directors use that database to cast thousands of Background Actors to work on set, often for the following day.

What is a Demo Reel or an Actor Reel?A demo reel (AKA demo tape, demo disc, show reel, etc.) is a video or audio presentation designed to showcase talent, potential Cast and/or Crew, to a potential employer.

What does it mean to be hired as an Independent Contractor?An Independent Contractor is a person and/or entity contracted to perform work for, and/or provide services to, another entity (i.e. UNIONindie, LLC, etc.) as a non-employee. As a result, Independent Contractors must pay their own Social Security, Medicare and Taxes.

What are the hours of operation?UNIONindie works on projects 365 days out of the year. However, our film/video production hours may vary based upon the schedule of our team (i.e. Cast, Crew, etc.).
